When replacing iron beams used as window lintels from this period, it will usually be necessary to brace the building while the iron lintels are being removed and replaced and the section is being rebuilt.

The figure shows the minimum extent of a repair and a traditional example of bracing work, which is still in use. However, there are also other bracing solutions in use today, such as adjustable props and/or lifting jacks.
