Dormers
1890-1920
Original dormers have a slender appearance because the window frames are part of the surrounding structure – so-called “timber frames” – and because the dormer cheeks (the sides) simply consist of boards laid crosswise and covered with zinc externally and plaster internally.
Dormer roofs are normally covered with zinc on boards and supported by a light rafter construction.
The width of the dormer does not always correspond with the main roof’s rafter spacing, and in such cases trimming of the rafter structure is carried out.
